WTS Chicago

Great setting for a race!

Hi everyone!  Last weekend I raced in the Chicago World Triathlon Series event, which doubled as the USA Elite National Championships.  I finished 26th overall and took bronze in the national championships, while rounding up a few more Olympic points.  Post-race I returned to Park City, Utah for more training at altitude prior to my next race which is the Jiayuguan World Cup on July 26th in the Gansu province of China.

Big thanks to everyone for the support!  My sponsors, who are always behind me.  My coaches, who are always there for moral support, guidance, and fun.  Without their expertise I would not be within striking distance of the leaders.  And my family and friends, whose support both at races and from afar serves as inspiration to me.

Already back to work.  There’s still plenty still ahead!

Sixty-four men were on the start line.  It was viciously fast and aggressive, but I swam my way to 16th position by the end.   The bike course was very technical, so I did my best to stay near the front of our group.  On the first lap I narrowly escaped a crash that happened inches from my wheel.  By the start of the run, we had close to 50 athletes in the lead group.

Here is Javier Gomez of Spain, world ranked #1, leading the charge on the bike.  I’m #47, with the yellow handlebars on the left.

I was humbled and honored to chat with triathlon fans and young aspiring triathletes after the race.

It’s always great having my coach, Greg Mueller, at races for support!

Coach Tom Radam – my swim coach.  I can’t thank him enough for bringing my swim along!

And my parents.  What can I say?  They are always there for me, and I appreciate it!
