MY STORY…
Adversity is what lead me into triathlons. After running cross country in middle school, I had an injury and was told by a doctor that I’d never run again. It killed me to think that such a passion of mine could be lost – running was my life. Determined to stay in shape with the slight hope that I would someday run again, I joined the high school swim team as a freshmen. I kept pursuing a remedy and luckily found a doctor who figured out I had been misdiagnosed. After missing 7 months of running, I was back to competing with my cross country team. By this time I had developed a passion for swimming. Knowing that I loved both swimming and running, it occurred to me that I was practically a triathlete. I did my first age group triathlon in the summer of 2009 and my first draft-legal race (second triathlon ever) the following year, in which I earned my elite license. I then began racing as an elite in 2011, at the age of 17, with the goal of one day representing the United States as a triathlete at the Olympics.
